Snippets of My Memorable Experience:

Forced Change of Name

Alexander Adeyinka Adebayo, who was one year my senior harassed and embarrassed me into dropping my first name Alexander for my other name Oluwagbemiga, on the ground that I could not be bearing the same name Alexander with him. I was in Class One then and we were both in Swanston House. Now, what could a newcomer do then? However, irrespective of that, Alexander remains still part of my identity.

The supremacy fight

Muyiwa Olawunmi and I transited to GCI from the Ebenezer African Church Primary School and we were both in Class 1C. He was always bullying me anytime we had Physical Education. However, one good day, I summoned the courage to challenge him to a fight, and I beat him thoroughly. After that episode, whenever he saw me coming along the way, he would quickly, suddenly and stylishly remember to divert to the nearest alternate route. Till we left the school, he never crossed my path again.

My lucky escape

Our Vice-Principal, Mr. Oyetunji (as he then was) frightened me when he sent my classmates to inform me that he would cane me so ferociously that my buttocks would be sore, simply because I was late for the morning assembly. Luckily for me, I summoned the courage to gently explain to him that I was the Duty Prefect going round to get the boys to attend the assembly, whereupon, he had mercy on me and my poor buttocks were saved from the impending dreaded assault. Thank God.
