GCIOBA Elects New Executive Council Members

The members of Government College Ibadan Old Boys Association, GCIOBA have elected their Executive Council members that will steer the affairs of the alumni association for the next two years.

The elections, conducted by Banwo Smith (Field, 1959) - a trustee of the Association and Chairman of the School's Governing Board, took place at the School Assembly Hall on Saturday, 20th of October, 2018 during the 2018 Annual Reunion of the Association.

The elections had Bolanle Olawale Babalakin (Grier, 1971) - the Pro - Chancellor and Chairman of Council of the University of Lagos elected as the National President. The former GCIOBA-Lagos Branch Chairman succeeded Biodun Jolaoso (1964) whose three consecutive tenures were adjudged to have raised the bar of the Association.

The First and Second National Vice - Presidents elected were Tola Obembe (Carr, 1978) and Oluseun Abimbola (Carr, 1981), both of Lagos Branch and Ibadan Branch respectively.

Other elected members were Yinka Yusuff (Powell, 1985), Akindele Orowale (Field, 1968) and Seye Arowolo (Powell, 1985) for the office of the General Secretary, Treasurer and Financial Secretary. Yinka Yusuff (1985) is the General Secretary of Lagos Branch, while Akin Orowale (1968) and Seye Arowolo (1985) are members of Ibadan Branch and Lagos Branch respectively.

The Immediate Past National Social Secretary, Yinka Adepoju (Grier, 1971) was re-elected and returned as the Social Secretary.

The General Secretary, Yinka Yusuff (1985) appointed the Immediate Past Assistant General Secretary II, Adeniyi Adeoti (Carr, 1980) as the Assistant General Secretary I and Bazuaye Alloysius (Carr, 1991-September Set) as the Assistant General Secretary II. Both are members of Ibadan Branch. Adeniyi Adeoti (1980) is the Ibadan Branch Secretary while Alloysius Bazuaye (1991-September) is the Chairman of the Third Generation Bridging Gap Committee.

The Ex-Officios elected were Niyi Owolade (1967), and Adewale Dipeolu (1968) from Osogbo Branch and Abeokuta Branch respectively, and Wale Ajomale (1971) and Segun Julius (1985), both of Lagos Branch.

The President-elect, Wale Babalakin (1971) in his Appreciation message appreciated all Old Boys for the trust and confidence reposed in the new Exco to pilot the affairs of the Association for the next two years, and also commended the immediate past executive led by Biodun Jolaoso (1964) for their commitment and diligent pursuit of the vision of GCIOBA.
