GCI Holds Her 2018 Valedictory Speech & Prize Giving Day, Graduates 575 Senior And Junior Schools Students, 5 Students Get Scholarship
It was the famous United States� Artist, Ralph Ransom that quoted that �Before the reward there must be labour, you plant before you harvest�. The harvest time for the students of Government College Ibadan came on Wednesday, 25th July, 2018 as the School graduated 212 students from the Senior School, 182 from Junior School I and 181 students from Junior School II having fulfilled the academic and statutory requirements of the school, during their Valedictory Service at Lekan Are Hall, GCIOBA House.
The event chaired by the Vice Chancellor of Osun State University, Prof. Labode Popoola, and an Old Boy of the prestigious college of the 1976 Set had in attendance Mr Banwo Smith, Chairman, GCI School Governing Board; Chief Olaleye Falore, GCIOBA National Vice � President I; Barrister Akinwunmi Oretade, an Old Boy of the 1980 Set, distinguished officers from the Oyo State Ministry of Education, parents, staffs, students and friends of the college.
The Guest Speaker, Dr Oluwafemi Oyamakin of the Department of Statistics, University of Ibadan, also an Old Boy and Chairman of his 1991-January Set; in his apt, practical and succinct speech congratulated the graduands and informed them that their graduation is not an end goal in itself but a launching point into their future. He urged them to make decisions with their best interests in mind and to believe in themselves so as to reach their goals and fulfill their dreams.
Prizes were given to the best students in SSS 1, 2 & 3 in each of the 19 subjects being offered in the Senior School while the best students from JSS 1, 2, & 3 of the two Junior Schools in each of the 11 subjects being offered were also awarded.
Ekhator Destiny, Osofisan Samuel and Lawal Kabir emerged as the overall best student in JSS 1, 2, & 3 respectively in Junior School I while Esuola David, Adeleke Abdul and Akintayo Ali emerged as the overall best student in JSS 1, 2, & 3 respectively in Junior School II.
In the senior school, Elechi Ifeanyichukwu, Olayiwola Qudus and Musa Omobolaji emerged as the overall best students in SSS I, II and III respectively while Mr Azeez A.D., Mrs Akinwumiju D.A., Mr Azeez O.K., Mr Michael Adebara, and the duo of Mr O.A. Akinyemi and Mr I.A. Omoboriowo emerged as the most dutiful officers from the Education Officers, PTA Teachers, GCIOBA Teachers, NYSC Members, and non-teaching staff respectively.
5 senior school students, Elechi Ifeanyichukwu, Olayiwola Qudus, Musa Mobolaji, Adeniran Daniel and Nwakma Shiloh got IT Scholarship awards.
The outgoing Head of Senior School, Adeyemo Michael, in his vote of thanks appreciated the School Governing Board, GCI Old Boys Association and the School Administration for impacting quality education in them and equipping them with basic leadership skills.
