GCIOBA-Lagos Branch Holds Her 2018 Annual Luncheon, Honours 7 Old Boys & 1972 Set
It was an afternoon of sheer bliss and overflowing merriment as Old Boys of Government College Ibadan and their Young Girls, friends and families, in and outside Lagos State trooped out en masse to grace the 2018 Annual Luncheon & Merit Award Ceremony of Government College Ibadan Old Boys Association � Lagos Branch.
The Luncheon held on Sunday, 17th of June, 2018 at the City Hall, Catholic Mission Street, Victoria Island, Lagos was chaired by the Patron of MIT Club of New York, Ayo Olagundoye; an Old Boy of the prestigious College, of the 1958 Class Set and a Swan.
The theme of the event was �Through The Looking Glass� and the thought provoking presentation was delivered by the Keynote Speaker, Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi of the 1973 January Set and a Fielder; - the Managing Director of Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System, NIBSS (now CBN Deputy Governor designate).
The epoch making homecoming Luncheon featured three Stars of Honour, which were Tamarautare Brisibe, the Chief of Staff to Delta State Governor; Olawale Babalakin, the Pro Chancellor and Chairman of Council of University of Lagos; and Adewale Akinterinwa, the Honourable Commissioner For Finance of Ondo State; the trio of which are Old Boys of GCI, of 1968, 1971 and 1974 Class Sets respectively.
As part of the tradition of the well-respected Branch, 7 Old Boys were carefully selected, in recognition of their contributions to nation development, track records in their field of practice, passion for humanity, unparalleled support for the uplift of their Alma Mater, Set, Branch and GCIOBA at large; to receive the GCIOBA � Lagos Branch Merit Award.
The 2018 additions to the Lagos Branch Roll of Honour are Edward Olajide Ayo (Swanston, 1952), a Consultant to the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Bank; Olufemi Oduntan (Field, 1962), a former President, District Governor, Regional Director and Africa Area President of Ysmen International; Naseem Sanyaolu (1964), a Paediatric Surgeon, Pioneer Director of the HealthCare Planning,Research and Statistics in Lagos State Ministry of Health, and GCIOBA-1964/68/70 Set Chairman; Kehinde Adeniyi (Carr, 1964), former Head of Lagos Operations of NNPC Nigerian Gas Company Limited; Stephen Faderin (Field 1968), the first and only Nigerian to emerge as the Group Managing Director of CFAO Group in Nigeria, and current Chairman of Nigeria Ball-point Pen Industries; Yomi Akinyeye (Swanston, 1972) - the immediate past Chairman of the Branch, a distinguished professor of History and International Relations, and current Dean of University of Lagos� Faculty of Arts; and Adebola Ogunsina (Powell, 1975) � a great Cricketer, IT Consultant, current Chairman of Oyo State Cricket Association, and his Class Set Chairman.
The 1972 Class Set, chaired by Jide Adedeji (Carr), who individually and collectively have demonstrated enviable passion to uphold and preserve the tradition of excellence of their Alma Mater, was also admitted to the GCIOBA-Lagos Branch Roll of Honour.
The Branch Chairman and Host, Edward Akerele (Field, 1971), in his Address; noted that the Luncheon serves as a platform for fundraising for Government College Ibadan, while the Luncheon Planning Committee Chairman, Gbola Akinola (1972) gave everyone a convivial welcome and urged members to replicate the impressive Get-together turnout at the Branch�s monthly meetings.
