Swanston House Wins 2018 GCI Inter-House Hockey Competition

The Government College Ibadan Inter - Hockey Competition scheduled for Second Term of the 2017/2018 Academic Session took place between Tuesday, 3rd of April and Thursday, 5th of April, 2018 at the Hockey Pitch of the School.

All the five Houses of the School, Swanston, Grier, Field, Carr and Powell Houses participated in the competition and featured their senior students excluding the SSS III students who were preparing for their Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination.

The Swanston House Boys upped their game and displayed a sterling performance at the event, they emerged as the champion of the Competition, while Carr and Field Houses took the second and third positions respectively. It would be recalled that Swanston House took the second position at the 79th Interhouse Athletics Competition which held in the previous month.

Swanston House on the Opening day of the competition defeated Grier House with six goals to two, and went on to play Field House on the second day of the event. The Swans had a narrow win, with a 5-4 victory, as Field House Boys gave them a tough time on the pitch. The final match of the competition came up at the Grand Finale, it had Carr House humiliated by the Champions, Swanston House with six non-replied goals.

The Hockey Coach, Oluyemi Siyanbola (Swanston, 1991 January), said the Hockey Competition was formed to create viable and enviable competitiveness amongst the Hockey students in the School. He added that the event shall be a terminal (1st; 2nd and 3rd Term) event which would be played on a league basis. He noted that the event already has a giant trophy, presented to the School by the GCIOBA-1979 Set in the year 2013.
