Two GCI Old Boys Win Gold With Oyo State Hockey Team (Oluyole Warriors) At 2017 Union Bank ENDYFAS

image The 2017 edition of the Union Bank End of Year Five-A-Side Hockey Competition, ENDYFAS was held on Saturday, 16th of December, 2017 at the Legacy Pitch of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

The final match played on an artificial turf of the National Stadium was between OAU Great Ife Hockey Team and Oluyole Warriors of Ibadan. Both teams had won the competition twice in the past, and the thirst to win the tournament for three times made the game special and fiercer. Oluyole Warriors eventually won the match with a goal to nought, and made it three in a row, having won it back to back in 2015 and 2016.

Adiat Abass (3rd, L-R) and Adegoke Bamidele Awwal (7th, L-R) both from 2008 Set were among the Oluyole Warriors' gold medalists.

GCI Hockey Team (GCI Antelopes) coached by Yemi Siyanbola (1991) also featured in the tournament, however their draws, each with Prime Stars and Ken Roy teams, and defeat to Ambassadors team all from Lagos; placed them 7th in the 2017 ENDYFAS League Table. Eleven teams from Lagos, Oyo, Ogun, Osun and Katsina States participated in the male category of the 2017 ENDYFAS Tournament.

GCI Hockey Legends, Tunde Popoola (1970) - NOC Secretary General and former Nigeria Hockey Captain, and Sanjo Kanmi-Jones (1977) - former Union Bank Hockey star and first Nigerian to play professional hockey; were among the sponsors of the 2017 Union Bank ENDYFAS.
