GCIOBA-7074 Holds Her 2017 ENDO In Grand Style

image It was an afternoon of bliss as the friends and family of the Boys of 1970/74 Set of Government College Ibadan Old Boys Association gathered together in an atmosphere of fun, friendship and fellowship to celebrate their 47th year of entry into Government College Ibadan, an event which also doubled as their End of the Year Party, popularly known as ENDO party.

The event hosted by Babajide Olatunde-Agbeja (1970) on Saturday, 16th of December, 2017 in Ibadan, Oyo State had the GCIOBA National President duly represented by the First National Vice President, Olaleye Falore (1962), GCI Governing Board Chairman, Banwo Smith as the Chairman of the Occasion; and the Executive Director, Engineering and Technical Services of Niger Delta Power Holding Company Ltd., Ifeoluwa Oyedele (1971) as the Guest Speaker.

While delivering the Address and Goodwill message of the National President, the First National President commended the Set for their relentless efforts in projecting the image of the School and the Association at large with the emergence of GCI Museum. He urged them to continually support the Association's vision to bring back the lost glory of their Alma Mater.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Day, Banwo Smith (1959) advocated for concerted efforts from all stakeholders to revive the fallen legacy of Government College Ibadan. He said the GCI Governing Board is poised to bringing back GCI to its good old days of sterling academic perfomances.

He cited the example of the time when GCI of all schools in Nigeria then singlehandedly produced 33% (8 of 24) of students who gained the first US Scholarship. He added that such glorious feat is far from reach in today's GCI, but with time and joint efforts, it is reachable.

The Guest Speaker of the 47th Anniversary, Ife Oyedele (1971), in a Distinguished Roundtable Discussion shed more light on the Electrical Power Situation in Nigeria - an intellectual deliberation which was part of the Set's contributions to national discourse.

The ENDO had in attendance Yemi Oluwole and Akin Orowale from the 1967 Class and 1968 Class respectively, who gave reminiscences about the 1970 Set, while apologies were received from other invited Class Sets. GCIOBA - Ibadan Branch Executive Members graced the event. The event also featured Sound Incorporation Show where Old Boys and Young Girls put on their dancing shoes and moved their body to the sweet rhythm and blues of the live Band. The Immediate Past Chairman of the 1970 Set, Taiwo Fatungase gave Tribute to the Departed members while a 1-minute silence was observed in their honour.

1970/74 Set is an arm of Government College Ibadan Old Boys Association (GCIOBA) consisting of Boys who had their secondary education at GCI between 1970 and 1974 and have become successful and fulfilled in their various professions.
