GCI came 2nd in the Nigeria's 57th Independence Anniversary organised by the Oyo State Government

image No fewer than 62 Schools, Non-Governmental Organisations and other Associations participated in the celebration of Nigeria's 57th Independence Anniversary organised by the Oyo State Government. The 2017 celebrations tagged "Youth and Economic Challenges : The Way Forward" was attended by Gov. Abiola Ajimobi, the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, members of the State Executive Council, Traditional Rulers from Ibadan, and other dignitaries.

Part of the events was held at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex in Ibadan on Sunday, 1st of October - Nigeria's Independence Day and had 50 Secondary Schools drawn across the State participate in a Match Past Competition.

The Cadet Team of Government College Ibadan represented the School at the Match Past Competition, and emerged as the first runner-up.
St. Lois Grammar School came first while Lagelu Grammar School emerged as the second runner-up.

The GCI Cadet Team were robed in the ceremonial attire of the School, and again displayed their sterling performance, as being done in the past.
