Dereck John Bullock Foundation Awards Three GCI Teachers

image "Teachers' reward is in heaven" is a cliche which means lack of, or inadequate incentives and rewards given to teachers - the Nation Builders.

In a saner clime like Government College Ibadan, reverse is the case as Teachers' reward is now obtainable here on earth and even during their active service. It was in this line that the Dereck John Bullock, DJB Foundation - a Non Governmental Organisation that focuses on the advancement of Secondary School Education in Nigeria, rewarded three different teachers of Government College Ibadan for their selfless services to humanity, unwavering commitments to GCI and outstanding competence in their profession.

A member of the DJB Foundation, Dr Banwo Smith while making the presentation at the 2016/2017 Valedictory Service/Speech and Prize Giving Day of the School held on Wednesday, 26th of July, 2017 at Lalekan Are Hall, GCI said the three Teachers were vehemently screened through votes conducted between the students, teachers and other basic criteria.

Dr Smith who disrobed his customised GCI Cap for a customised DJB Foundation Cap explained further that the Teachers' Award program is one of the programmes facilitated with Derek John Bullock Endowment Fund. Established in January 2012, the Derek John Bullock Foundation is aimed at perpetuating the legacy of the late Derek John Bullock (1926 - 2009) in secondary school education in Nigeria. DJ Bullock, a principal in Government College Ibadan between 1960 and 1968, dedicated his entire life to imparting the very best secondary school education to his students, and also made it possible for a significant number of indigent students to attend schools in which he served by paying their tuitions from his own pocket.

The Awardees (from left to right) were Mr Adeniran Ibrahim Oluwaseun - an Education Officer in the Mathematics Department (Senior School) and Football Master; Mr Egbunu Usman Siaka - a PTA Teacher in the Mathematics Department (Junior School II) and Carr Housemaster; and Mr Sule Temitope Eniola - a PTA Teacher in the Arts Department (Junior School I) and Grier Housemaster. The Awardees who were surprised at their nominations expressed their joyfulness and appreciated the DJB Foundation for rewarding merits.

GCI Museum gathered that the awards contained huge cash prizes, certificates, and exotic plaques.
