Swanston House after Mr E R Swanston - The Inspector of Education.
Grier House after Sir S. M. Grier - Director of Education.
Field House after Captain H T C Field the second Principal of GCI.
Carr House after Henry Carr - the first African Director of Education, a mathematician, philosopher and musicologist.

Grier House was unique in respect of this tradition of naming places.
Blocks were named after eminent old boys and masters.
The block housing the Prep Room, Head of House Room, House Master's Room and Sixth Form Room was named Akin Deko Block after Gabriel Akin Deko, 1929.
The block housing Rooms 1 to 3 was named Arubayi Block after Eduweye Gboruwa Arubayi, 1929.
The block housing Rooms 4 & 5 was named Herrington Block after Mr G N Herrington one of the first teachers. It was formerly named after David Christopher Edgal, 1929.
The block housing Rooms 6 to 8 was named Odiase Block after Johnson Egharevba Odiase, 1929.
The Prep Room Block was formerly Temietan Block after Sunday Omagbenuwaje Temietan, 1929.
There were also several cairns to commemorate several events like the homecoming after the World War II in 1941, etc
The quads of the lawns of the quadrangle in the center of the blocks were also so named.
However it is noted that the first Principal of GCI - Revd Capt C E Squires and the first House Master of Swanston House - Mr W B Benton Evans had no place named after them to commemorate their roles in GCI.
