GCIOBA-Lagos Branch Awards Engr. Olufemi Olatunji, Prof. Ben Ogunmoyela, Mr Ayodeji Oni, Engr. Segun Kehinde, Mr 'Seye Fadahunsi, Mr Akin Osuntoki and the1985 Set

image May 21st, 2017 was another epoch making day in the annals of the Lagos Branch of Government College Ibadan Old Boys Association as it had her 2017 Annual Luncheon and Merit Awards Ceremony at The City Hall, Catholic Mission Street, Lagos Island, Lagos State. The event also marked the grand finale of the Branch's Annual Week which it had earlier started with courtesy visits to widowed Young Girls, some ancient Old Boys and selected charity homes.

The classic event held under the distinguished chairmanship of a very ancient Old Boy of Government College Ibadan in person of Chief Ajibola Ogunshola (964, Field, 1956) - the first Black African to qualify as a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of England, who later became the Chairman of Punch Newspaper; had the Group Finance Director of Oando Plc, Mr Oluemi Adeyemo (3163, Powell, 1976) - another Old Boy of the prestigious College as the Guest Speaker who delivered a Paper on "Oil Subsidy: A perspective from the Field".

The Homecoming event compered by Dr Sina Fagbenro-Byron had presentations from GCI Educational Foundation, GCI Museum, and Air France - KLM; Dancing Competition among Young Girls and Old Boys, Raffle Draw, and Merit Award Ceremony. Participants ranging from Captains of Industries, Technocrats, Professionals, Professors, Chancellors, Businessmen and Businesswoman who were either Old Boys, Young Girls or guests graced the colourful event and The Rapture Band was live on stage to entertain everyone.

Leading the Roll of Honour was a superb Swan and an ancient Old Boy - Olufemi Olatunji (1962), an Idanre born and a UK trained Building Engineer. This Captain of Femolat Engineering Services who currently steers the leadership of 1962 Class, was honoured in recognition of his enviable strides in engineering profession, enviable passion for sustainable community development and his long standing contributions to the entirety of Government College Ibadan Old Boys Association.

Another Awardee, Olugbenga Ben Ogunmoyela , a great Grierson of the 1965 Set and Professor of Food Technology and Immediate Past Dean of The Postgraduate School in Bells University of Technology, Ota, who has either served as a Consultant or Board Member to various private companies and development agencies which include but not limited to Project Implementation Committee, PIC for the MMA2 Project, UNESCO Category 2 Institute, Institute of African Culture & International Understanding (IACIU) at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, The Resort Group, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation's Technoserve aka SAPFF etc

Also on the Honour's list is another great Grierson of the 1966 Set - Ayodeji Olufunmilade Oni (1678, Grier, 1966) an humble, quiet and dependable technocrat with impeccable integrity. He served meritoriously in the Federal Ministry of Finance during which he headed the Lagos Control Office of the National Insurance Commission and also the Research and Statistics Unit in Abuja. He has been the Chairman of GCIOBA 1966-70/72 Set since January 1994.

Emmanuel Olusegun Kehinde (2158, Carr, 1970) - a highly resourceful, renowned and accomplished Engineer whose immense professional services were sought after at PZ Industries Ltd., the defunct Nigeria Telecommunications, NITEL, IGI's Monarch Communications Limited, Third Generation Technologies, Odua Telecommunications Limited (ONET), Multilinks Telecommunications Limited, NEC West Africa Limited, (and Teletrust Limited - which he owns) etc., at different points in time. He was awarded in recognition of his contributions to the development of the Telecommunications Sector in Nigeria, growth of his Class Set and GCIOBA at large.

'Seye Fadahunsi, Son of the great late Chief S.O. Fadahunsi and Patron of GCIOBA, Former National and West African Cricketer, and the current Executive Director of Pillar Oil Limited was also a Merit Award Recipient. The 1971 Old Boy, Oil Tycoon and CEO, Energy and Mineral Resources Limited, EMR; was honoured in recognition of his quiet disposition, selfless service and many contributions to the development of Oil and Gas Industry and for continuing a long standing family commitment to GCIOBA.

The last but not the least admitted to the GCIOBA-Lagos Branch Roll of Honour was Akin Osuntoki (2983, Powell, 1974), a Chartered Accountant per excellence and Fellow of the Harvard Business School. He carved a niche for himself in the Oil and Gas Sector with his Richardson Oil and Gas, ROG Services Company. This principled, enthusiastic and hardworking professional with powers of concentration and unshakeable resolve was honoured in recognition of his contributions to the vibrancy of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Sector, and unparalleled commitments to the development of GCI and GCIOBA.

Of the over 86 Class Sets GCI has produced since its inception, the distinguished Class Set of 1985 under the able and amiable chairmanship of Oluseye Arowolo (6006, Powell, 1985), notably known for its legacy of giving back to its Alma Mater annually, and empowering its members to attain greater heights was honoured.

The Lagos Branch Chairman, Prof. Yomi Akinyeye of the 1972 Set congratulated the awardees for the honour done them and urged all members to be at their best in both their endeavours and commitments to the Branch so as to be honoured sooner while his Vice and Luncheon Committee Chairman, Edward Akerele (1971) used the opportunity to urge all Old Boys residing in Lagos to attend the monthly meetings, and also enjoined everyone present to enjoy themselves with their respective Young Girls, spouses, guests and former class and school mates.
