V.B.V Powell - (1904 - 1989) - Villiers Barcham Vaughan Powell was educated at Christ's College, Christchurch, New Zealand and Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, England.

He was an excellent athlete who played 1st XV Rugby, 1st XI Cricket and took up Boxing as well as Rackets and Fives. He excelled in Athletics winning the Senior Challenge Cup, for Athletics, at Clifton three times and setting the long jump record at 21 feet 21/2 inches.

He clocked 10.2 seconds for the 100 yards both at Clifton and in London, at Stanford Bridge, when competing in the Public Schools Championship in 1923. In 1927 Powell won the long jump for Cambridge in the Varsity Sports.

In the years after University, Powell became a key figure in Education.

He was appointed a Superintendent of Education in Nigeria. He was a founding staff at Government College Ibadan in 1929, and later became Principal in 1943. He was the founding Principal of Government College Ughelli in January, 1945.
