Soccer Team of 1973/74

Arise, Arose, Arisen....the complete team list of the All Conquering GCI 1973/74 Session Soccer team - as narrated by the Goal Keeper Awe, 1969, Powell House

I hope the curator of the GCI Museum is taking notes. Pls put this team list in the museum and kindly interview members of that squad for posterity. We were in Form 1 in September 1973, the exploits of that team in the Principal Cup, allowed us to travel to various locations as the team progressed from preliminaries to the final, played against Adeola Odutola College, Ijebu Ode.

The composition of that team, has been a source of debate, especially amongst younger Old Boys... I am sharing an edited version of the chat I got from Awe, this morning.

" I'm Kenny Awe, (a.k.a Agoalie), the GCIi Soccer team Goal Keeper 1973 - 75, I was in Powell House with Seun Oyefeso & Demola Bashorun (Bashy, the S.I. Base Guitarist).

Going down memory lane.

The captain of our soccer team then was Torey, (Funsho Ogunkeye in jersey nos 9) now a Lawyer, from Field house together with Kayode Lana (nos 4), Tunde Balogun (The thunder in nos 10) & Tunde Lawani (nos 8).

I hope you can still recall those names.

Not forgeting Billy Afelumo in jersey nos 2, from Grier house, Kunle Elegbede in nos 3, in Powell house & Wole Aladejobi in nos 6 (Carr house).

Remember Banco too (Adeosun in nos 5) from Powell & Victor Jones in nos 7, also from Powell.

And last but not the least is Aborowa in nos 11, also from Carr house"
