H.R. CARR

Henry Rawlinson Carr, after who Carr House was named when it was established in 1949, was born in August 1863.

His mother bore the name Rebecca while his father's name was Carr. By the age of 31, he had become the Chief Inspector of Education in Nigeria. In 1903, he served as Assistant Colonial Secretary before becoming the Resident of the Colony in 1920. In 1928, he became a member of the Legislative Council of Nigeria, a position he held until 1941. This was in additional to being a member of the Board of Education in 1936.

Henry Carr died in 1945 and four years later, he was honoured by having the newly opened (and the 4th) Boarding House in GCI named after him.
