GCI Holds 2018/2019 Valedictory Service
Tuesday, 23rd of July, 2019 was a day of bliss for both students and teachers of Government College Ibadan as they gathered together to have their Valedictory Service in grand style.
The event, which held at Lalekan Are Hall, GCIOBA House, GCI was chaired by Dr Olutunde Oni - the Chief Medical Director of Clinic on the Hill who is also an Old Boy of the school. The event graced by the Patron of Government College Ibadan Old Boys Association, Dr Lekan Are; and the Chairman of the School Governing Board, Mr. Banwo Smith had Dr James Banjo, an Associate Professor in Tai Solarin University of Education, Ogun State as the Guest Speaker. Upper echelons from the Oyo State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology were also in attendance.
The Principal, Dr Tunde Odekunle in his Valedictory Speech reported that 335 students graduated from the Senior Secondary School, while 150 students and 164 students graduated from the Junior School I and Junior School II respectively.
In the academics, the trio of Anthony Nathaniel, Kolawole Emmanuel, and Olayiwole of SSS 1, 2 and 3 respectively emerged as the Overall Best Students in Senior Secondary School.
Eze Michael, Ekhator Destiny and Osofisan Samuel of JSS 1, 2 and 3 respectively emerged as the overall best students in Junior Secondary
School I, while Abdul Hakeem Muhammed, Afenifere Olawale and Afolayan Temidayo of JSS 1, 2 and 3 respectively emerged as the overall best students of Junior Secondary School II.
In the extra-curricular activities, Obafemi Vincent, Adekunle Hammed and Kolawole Tomiwa of Junior Secondary School I, II and Senior School respectively emerged as the overall best footballers.
In the game of Hockey, Usman Michael, Adedokun Hazzan and Odedokun Tolulope of Junior School I, II and Senior School respectively emerged as the overall best students, while in Cricket, Martins John, Alabi Kehinde and Okene David of Junior School I, II and Senior School respectively emerged as the overall best cricketers.
Ayantoye Ifeoluwa, Togbogbo Isaac, and Aremu Faruq Adeyemi of Junior School I, II and Senior School respectively emerged as the overall best athletes of the school.
The prizes for each of Football, Hockey, Athletics and Cricket were donated by GCI/LADC Academy Steering Committee, GCIOBA National Secretary - Yinka Yusuff (1985 Set), 1978 Set and GCI Principal, Dr Tunde Odekunle respectively.
In the Teaching Staff, Mr Akanni M.O. of the Senior School amongst the School's Education Officers emerged as the Most Dutiful Officer.
Mr Akintunde Sikiru (a Mathematics Teacher) of Junior School II amongst the GCIOBA Teachers emerged as the Most Dutiful Officer.
Mr Oshileye (Member, Guidance Counselling Unit) of Senior School amongst the N-Power staff emerged as the Most Dutiful Officer.
Mr Jamiu among the Corps members of the school emerged as the Most Dutiful Officer.
In the Non Teaching Staff, Mr. Atere Fred, the Storekeeper emerged as the Most Dutiful Officer.
The corporate donors included the Ministry of Science & Technology (Curriculum Development Department), University Press Plc., Faman Publisher, Pathfinder Global Publisher Ltd., Idea Konsult Nigeria Ltd., Rasmed Publication, GCI/LADC Academy Steering Committee, GCIOBA, PTA, 1991 Set, 1998 Set, 1978 Set, 1988 Set.
The Individual Donors included Old Boys such as Wale Babalakin (1971), Femi Babalola (1975), Bunmi Babalola (1976), Akin Orowale (1968),
Akinwunmi Oretade (1980), Yinka Yusuf (1985), and the three Principals - Dr Tunde Odekunle, Mr. O.Y. Ibrahim and Mr. Adewale of the school.
The outgoing Head of School of the Senior School, Morakinyo Akinola David; on behalf of the entire School Community appreciated the School Governing Board, Dereck John Bullock Foundation, Government College Ibadan Old Boys Association, Oyo State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and the School Management for their concerted efforts in the restoration of the past glory of the school, and for availing their resources in the uplift of the school's education standard and infrastructural facilities.
