House History:

Carr House was founded in 1949 (a year after Field House was established). The House has Mr Henry Rawlinson Carr as its first Patron whom the House was later named after. Mr Henry R. Carr was Chief Inspector of Education in Nigeria in 1894 and was the only Black man who had a House named after him in Government College Ibadan. The House Song was composed by Alamu Stephen (1954) - http://www.gcimuseum.org/content/alamu-stephen, the then Head of Carr House. Mr Enobakhare was the first Housemaster of the House. G.N.I. Enobakhare (1933) was an Old Boy of Government College Ibadan, who later returned as the first Nigerian to occupy the Principal's seat in 1958. Twelve Boys from each of the then existing Swanston, Grier and Field Houses were selected to constitute the Thirty-six Foundation Boys of Carr House in 1949. Some of the Foundation Boys were Oladeji Emmanuel Olaniyi (1944), Idowu Ademola (1948) of blessed memory, Olarewaju (1944), and late J.S. Oguntoyinbo (1948) (First Old Boy of Carr House to later become House Master of Carr House).

House Song:

1. Where is the source of our great joy?
Everyday we're bound in joy
Our unique fruit of ambition
It's striking initiation
Comes from this lovely home of grace
Carr House historical place
All Eaglets let us now rejoie
An exalt Carr with our voice.

2. Of all eaglets none can deny
What pleasures he has thereby
To cheer up our hopeful course
Are provided games and sports
Thus boredom removed from our way
Never sad but always gay
We heartily thank Vigilia
May he help us for ever.

3. We all are very proud of thee
Something must we do for thee
Youngest yet envied by others
Present boys, let's lead others
Our Old Boys will take charge willingly
Of greater affairs bravely
Thus fulfilling their promises
Helping Carr House in all fields.

4. Great men will from Carr House emerge
Christ from Nazareth did emerge
Glorious things for thee shall we do
We honour that great crest too
Eagle, king to birds of all types
Indicates our place in life
Great was our Patron, Henry Carr
Greater may we be on earth thee.
