1991-September Set Sponsors Writing Competition For GCI Boys

In a bid to improve the writing skills of GCI students, the Class of 1991-September Set sponsored a Writing competition for the SSS I & II students of Government College Ibadan on 3rd of April, 2019.

The Languages Department of the School, headed by conducted the competition. 20 participating students drawn from the 2 classes were asked to write a narrative essay on the recently concluded 2019 Inter - House Sports Competition of the school to commemorate the 90th Anniversary of the School. The 45-minutes exercise was held at the English Lecture Theater.

At the end of the competition, the scripts were assessed by an Independent tutor from Forestry Research Institute of Nigeria (FRIN) using Content, Expression, and Mechanical Accuracy (COEMA) metrics for grading.

Elechi Ifeanyichukwu, an SSS 2 student emerged as the overall winner of the contest, while Morakinyo Olufemi and Adegbite Happiness, both of SSS 1, took the second and third positions respectively.

A Samsung Tablet device was presented to the overall winner, while a cash prize of #5,000.00 each was presented to the two runners-up boys. Awards of excellence were also presented to the three winners. The presentation was done on 3rd of May, 2019 on the Assembly ground.

The Class Chairman, Kola Enitinwa in a short briefing said that the initiative was to stir academic excellence of the present boys, and also sharpen their writing skills.
