88th Reunion Planning Committee Chairman's Speech

MESSAGE FROM THE 2017 GCIOBA REUNION PLANNING COMMITTEE’S CHAIRMAN

Dearly beloved Old Boys, our most cherished Young Girls, Distinguished Guests, ladies and gentlemen.

I am extremely delighted to welcome you all on behalf of the National President, National Executive Committee and the 2017 Reunion Planning Committee to this very special and undoubtedly unique 88th Anniversary of our Alma Mater - the prestigious Government College Ibadan, School of our pride built on the rock.

Glory, honour, adoration and deep appreciation to God Almighty for what He has done for us in time past, what He is doing at the moment and what He will still do to move this Association to greater heights. No doubt, great and mighty things have happened since we last gathered in this hall about a year ago.

This year’s Reunion has among other events, a Public Lecture anchored by one of us, our own Wale Babalakin SAN, Jumat Service, Novelty Cricket Match, Sing Song, Annual General Meeting, Drama Sketch titled ‘Amona’ by Eda Theatre Group, Interdenominational Thanksgiving Service, Commissioning of various projects carried out by committed Old Boys and dedicated Class Sets. Of course, we have the climax which is this great Luncheon and Merit Awards with Raffle Draw to round it off.

Very important also, is the fact that God has been very good to us as old and present boys of this citadel of learning.

This year 2017, the history of education in Oyo State is being rewritten with the introduction of functional School Governing Board and restoration of Entrance Examination conducted by our school’s management without interference from government is commendable. Gradually, the GCI I met and knew is returning to its old pride of place. It’s the Lord’s doing and marvelous in our sight.

I hope and wish that we rightly use this homecoming opportunity to assess things first hand in order to make our own valuable contributions to the fund drive by the National Executive Committee in order to restore the School to her past glory.

I congratulate the Golden and Ruby celebrants in particular the 1967 and 1977 Class Sets, thanking them for their well thought out and properly implemented projects. Also, their generous donations towards the infrastructural development of the school. God Almighty will not forget your labour of love. I salute all the distinguished Awardees, their families and friends, I say ‘Warmest Congratulations’ to you all.

We are gathered here today to enjoy ourselves with our spouses, invited guests, class and school mates in an atmosphere of peace and tranquility. The Police Band is here to entertain us, properly iced assorted drinks and sumptuous meals have been provided by this wonderful planning committee with lots of valuable Raffle items to take home by winners.

Thank you for coming, please relax and enjoy yourselves as I wish you all a wonderful and exciting afternoon.

YINKA ADEPOJU frpa (1971 Set),
National Social Secretary and Planning Committee Chairman.
